Separation Before Manifestation

One of the phenomena I have been studying for sometime now is how God separates people before He uses them. Almost all the people He used in the Bible were separated from their relations, friends, homes etc.

For example, in chapter 11 of Genesis Abraham’s father died. In chapter 12, God appeared to him and said;

“Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.” Genesis 12:1.

How can you leave your country, your family and father’s house, your siblings, colleagues, and everything and go to where you are not even sure of?

Abraham couldn’t fathom it, and decided to take Lot along. Lot followed him with lots of problems. Although he obeyed God, but he was still attached to the things God told him to leave behind.

It was after Abraham and Lot parted ways that God said to him; “.. Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever” Genesis 13:14-15.

It is not as if the people and places God told him to leave behind were bad, but He wanted Abraham to trust Him in everything. He wanted Abraham to get rid of everything he was relying upon and rely upon Him.

Maybe Abraham was hoping that one of his uncles or friends would help him. Maybe he was so attached to his father’s house that it has become his god. So, God wanted Abraham to walk with Him only.

The same thing happened to Moses. God did not just separate him from family, friends and acquaintances, he was living in another country all together when he ran away from Egypt.

It was in that lonely place that God appeared to Moses in a burning bush and commissioned him to deliver His people from captivity.

In fact, God said to Moses; “See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet.” Exodus 7:1.

He was empowered to operate like principality in Egypt after separation. God separated Moses from everybody and sent him to Egypt to represent Him.

When the Holy Spirit wanted to call Paul and Barnabas, look at what He said; “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.” Acts 12:2-3.

He separated Barnabas and Paul for an assignment. He pulled them out from every other person. Of course, they are not supposed to be hostile to others, but they must not be too attached to them and abandon their assignment.

Maybe you are going through separation presently. Maybe you are in a situation where everyone you love is gradually walking away from you. It is time to go to God and find out what is going on.

Maybe God wants to use you to accomplish something. Maybe God is trying to reach you but you are too attached to people and places.

Wisdom is profitable to direct!
