Dear Christian, You Need to Know These Truths

The Bible is the foundation of our faith. The study, interpretation and application of the Bible must be methodical. Any truth you want to share should be a body of truth. Don’t just run with a verse. Your approach must be holistic. Some of the things we call revelation is actually inference or eisegeses.

If you don’t understand what I am saying, just use the Catholic church approach. First reading comes from the Old Testament, second reading comes from Epistles, and finally the Gospel. That is the simplest way to teach systematically.

Bible Doctrine is a body of truth gleaned from the Old Testament, Epistles and the four Gospels. To teach Christian beliefs and practices, you must present the subject from diverse scriptures, not a verse. Don’t pick “suffer not the witch to live” and plaster it like that, can we find scriptures that forms a body of truth in that regard?

Engaging in an in-depth study of the Bible has shown me that most of the things we were taught while growing up as young Christians were not in the Bible. I feel so sorry for those who only listen to what preachers say and don’t open their Bibles to confirm.

One of my assignments in the Body of Christ is to help us to go back to the Bible. Popular phrases amongst Christians today is “my pastor said,” “my priest said,” not the Bible says.

Most of things we believe are not in the Bible. And when I say it sometimes, people look at me aghast. It is time for us to go back to the Bible.

For example:

(1). Where you pray is not important.

Whether you pray on a mountain, valley, low land, high land, inside your room, desert, hotel room or in the church, it doesn’t change the efficacy of your prayer.

In the Old Testament people went to a place to meet God. God was either in the Holy of Holies, or He would ask Moses to meet Him on the mountain.

In the New Testament, God is no longer in a place, He is in us!

One of the events that took place the day Jesus Christ was crucified was this:

“And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.” Mathew 27:50-51.

Some Bible scholars opined that between the holy place and holy of holies there was a veil. No man was qualified to come close to God except the high priest. In order to show us that man was eternally liberated and has been given access to come to God, the veil was torn from the top to the bottom. His death on Cross gave us access to fellowship with Him.

The writer of Hebrews said:

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16.

In the Old Testament they went to a place to meet God. In the New Testament, brother Paul opined:

“To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27.

Christ (God) is in you. He lives in you. Right where you are now, if you are a Christian, God is in you.

Look at the following scriptures:

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16.

“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19.

“Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.” 2 Timothy 1:13-14.

So, where you pray does not change God. Where you pray does not add or remove from your prayer. Prayer is simply talking to your Father and receiving an instruction from Him.

There is nothing wrong with personal retreat. I also go for personal retreat. You need a quiet place to commune with God. But the location is not important. What is important is that you pray daily and consistently.

By the way, there is nothing like powerful prayer, there is only one powerful God who answers prayer.

2. Fasting does not affect God, or make your prayer powerful, it weakens your flesh and help you to concentrate.

3. Most dream interpretations are not scriptural. They are conjectures and eisegeses. The interpreters force scriptures to say what it wasn’t designed to say in order to buttress their point.

For example, I searched to see a body of truth in the Bible that shows that eating in the dream is either poison or satanic manipulation, but I didn’t see anything.

Don’t get me wrong, God may reveal to an individual that what he ate in the dream last night was poison. The problem is that the person will write a book on his personal experience. He will start teaching it as Bible doctrine.

Some of our personal encounters with God are not meant to be taught. Don’t teach it. Don’t force others to believe or practice it unless you can exegetically ascertain it. That is why exegesis is very important.

One incident in the New Testament that relates to eating in the dream is Peter’s encounter with God.

“The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.” But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.” And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven.” Acts 10:9-16.

This incident happened while Peter was hungry. It was a prophetic picture that instructed Peter not to discriminate. Both Jews and Gentiles are sons and daughters of God.

The command to eat in that trance was an instruction. But today, someone will write that incident in a book. Some encounters are for us not for the Body of Christ.

Dear Christians, learn to study the Bible to ascertain what you heard. Behave like the Berean Christians.

“Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.” Acts 17:10-11.

  1. Your explanation here is solid. It has further consolidated my perception about the Bible.
A lot of African Christians have wrong knowledge about the content of the Holy Bible as a result of their laziness and none challant attitude to read the bible the way you have suggested. Another bad omen is that some self acclaimed Bible scholars who own business centers they call churches has continued to prey on the Christians with wrong interpretations and baseless bible quotations especially when they want to dwindle them of their assets, money etc.
Thank you for taking time to learn and for your willingness to share your inspirations and understanding with the world. God bless you.

  2. Bro Ifeanyichukwu Ezeh you are in line with most things I have learned from other preachers like Joshua Selman and I so much love you and you know that. Our problem is that for example in the renewal, they made people believe that eating in the dream for instance is a crime weather in a good place and plate or in a hut.
I kept debunking it coz I can personally be directed about my next encounter with that and someone will make me to reject it.

I love the teaching and the teacher. Just do pray for me.
