Dominion Mentality (Bible Study)—Part 1

Dominion means sovereign or supreme authority; the power of governing and controlling; independent right of possession, use, and control; sovereignty; supremacy. Dominion is to rule, reign and subjugate. 

Many Christians are saved, but they are yet to understand what salvation means and whom they are in Christ. That is why they panic. Ordinary dream is enough to disorganize their day.

John G. Lake was in South Africa when a plague broke out and thousands of people were dying. Lake challenged the doctors to take some of the foam from the mouths of the victims and examine it; to be sure the germs were still alive. He urged them to put the foam on his hand, so that it would be re-examined under a microscope. And behold all the germs were discovered dead at the re-examination! His body has killed them!

Jesus Christ did not just redeem us from satanic subjugation. He restored us back to the frequency Adam operated before the fall. Every wisdom, intellect, spiritual capacity or authority Adam had was given to us in full force! Just like John G. Lake’s body killed the germs, so also should your presence send any evil back to hell fire.

Few scriptures will help us to understand the import of dominion. 

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV).

Anyone who accepts Christ takes His nature automatically. It is like removing the cloth of Adam (after the fall) and putting on a new cloth of righteousness that Christ made available to us on the cross of Calvary. At the moment you receive Christ, your spiritual connection with Adam is destroyed and you are reconnected to God who instantly made you a new personality! The spiritual point of contact that made Satan the lord of your life was cut off and he became your subject.

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.” Colossians 1:13 (NKJV).

The moment you accept Christ, you become disconnected from satanic kingdom and engrafted into Christ! You become translated from the earthly to the heavenly realm. You become divinely wired to become a pace setter, trailblazer, pathfinder and a history maker. The hosts of heaven coronate you a king to rule the world just like Adam did: 

“And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.” Revelation 5:10 (NKJV).

Once you are in Christ, you become both a ruler and a spiritual head whose authority cannot be questioned by the devil. Heaven gives you the authority and power to become a territorial commander.

Even Moses in the Old Testament exercised this power; how much more you and I that have a better covenant.

“And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.” Exodus 7:1 (KJV).

And Psalms 82:6 corroborates; “I said, you are gods, and all of you are children of the Most High.” 

“The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men.” Psalms 115:16 (NKJV). 

In the light of these scriptures, you should understand that you are a ruler on earth; you are not a weakling! Religion has reduced kings (us) to a beggarly lifestyle whereby we manage life and live in perpetual fear of the devil. 

According to diplomatic laws, the American Police cannot arrest me in Nigeria because there are territorial limitations to sovereignty. Before the American police can touch me in Nigeria, they have to first of all take permission from my President and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces of my Federal Republic. This explains why Satan had to take permission from God before he could touch Job. It is enshrined in every nation’s constitution that the president must protect the life and properties of his citizens.

Also, the Nigerian Police cannot arrest the American Ambassador to Nigeria unless they take permission from the president of his home country. In fact, if you run into the American embassy in Nigeria while being pursued by the local police, you would have run into safety because they will discontinue their chase. Diplomatic law forbids the local police from arresting you in the custody of the embassy of another country.

The American ambassador to Nigeria is answerable only to the American president, not to the President of Nigeria in the dispatch of his regular, official functions. He uses dollar while the rest of us in the country use Naira because that is his country’s currency. 

Similarly, by virtue of your translation or conveyance (Colossians 1:13), the Kingdom of Heaven becomes your country, God becomes your President, the Church, your embassy, and you become Heaven’s ambassador to the earth! This is the revelation that killed the fear of Satan in my life. God has said concerning you; “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ ….” 2 Corinthians 5:20.

Every ambassador enjoys some immunity from the country of assignment. No military personnel can molest him; otherwise, the two nations could experience some infringements in their diplomatic relations. 

Concerning your embassy, Jesus said; “….I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18. 

Therefore, Satan can no longer molest you. Simply, you do not belong to his kingdom anymore. Your kingdom is superior to his. This means that both Satan and his kingdom are under you. 

Many Christians do not know this truth; so, they live under perpetual fear of satanic attack. Many people troop into the churches on Sunday just to fulfill all righteousness; they know nothing about their position in Christ. Today, many believers equip themselves with all kinds of talisman in the attempt to overcome known and unknown forms of satanic attack. They live daily in great fear of the devil and his agents. 

I was in a bookstore some years ago when a woman came in and bought all kinds of anointing oil, incense, candles and prayer manuals. She was planning to travel down to the village and had to get herself well-armed with her arsenal for protection against the devil and her machinations. She insisted that evil men and women are everywhere waiting for people to send to their early graves, or somehow incapacitate, if they cannot kill. That is the height of ignorance about the higher life that the believer has inherited in Christ Jesus!

Like this woman, many among us Christians pretend that we worship God but in reality, and action, we do not know Him. 

Something happened in the Old Testament. The Philistines fought with Israel, defeated them and captured the Ark of God. They offended God by looking into the Ark, and this happened:  

“He struck fifty thousand and seventy men of the people and the People lamented because the Lord had struck the people with great slaughter.” 1 Samuel 6:19.

50,070 men died just because they looked into a wooden box God chose to indwell His presence! 

But after the death of Christ, God’s presence no longer dwells in a wooden box. Since the Pentecost, His presence dwells in man. Yes, beloved, God’s presence dwells in you, yet you do not know.

God can wipe out an entire nation and dislodge the kingdom of darkness for the sake of His presence in you; yet, you do not know! 

Ignorance is like a black man, wearing a black suit, looking for a black object, inside a black nylon, in a dark corner! That is what is happening to some believers in Christ today. They live in perpetual fear of Satan because they do not know whom they are in Christ. 

Do you really know who we are in Christ? It is important that we know, because knowledge is power. If we can rediscover our status in Christ, we need not fear Satan anymore.
