Operating in the Supernatural (Part 1) Bible Study

The supernatural is a dimension that is beyond scientific understanding and laws of nature. The supernatural is unexplainable. It means above, beyond, or outside of nature. It is operating in the realm where God operates.

When you see instant miracle, you are looking at the operations of the supernatural. The person may have battled with cancer for five years, but within few seconds, the cancer disappeared. That cannot be explained scientifically or logically.

There are two kinds of believers: those who bind demons and those whom demons tremble at their presence. Those who spend hours every night binding demons and those who spend quality time in fellowship with God.

We will soon see in the scripture that what makes the devil and his agents tremble is not necessarily how many times you shout fire, it is your spiritual positioning and spiritual ruggedity.

You remember the seven sons of Sceva? They used the name of Jesus to command demons. They did what they saw others do, but the devil and his agents beat them and wounded them.

The same demon that ran back to hell when Paul showed up wounded them. Why? Because he was rugged in the spirit. When a believer knows whom he is in Christ by virtue of redemption, and also understand the place of intimacy with God, satan and his agents will never cross his path.

Those who go from place to place in search of solution do not understand how things work in the spirit. Depending on others for your spiritual solution is a byproduct of spiritual laziness. You are too weak to take up spiritual responsibility for your life. No wonder some people are standing naked in a river right now in the name of prayer, and others are duped.

Let’s establish one important point. A Christian who is genuinely born again cannot be possessed by the devil, he can only be attacked if he is casual spiritually. Brother Paul said:

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14 (NKJV).

“God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.” Colossians 1:13-14 (MSG).

If you are saved, it means Jesus Christ has delivered you from satan’s manipulation and subjugation. You are no longer possessed, you are delivered. satan lost the right over you. By virtue of redemption, satan, his agents, his kingdom and all he has are now under you.

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:4-6 (NKJV).

Jesus Christ made you alive, and raised you up, and made you and I to sit together with Him in the heavenly places. Jesus delivered you from the kingdom of darkness and positioned you in the Kingdom of God. By virtue of redemption, you are sitting in heaven right now! Therefore, satan and his agents cannot occupy your spirit (possession), but you can be attacked if you don’t know whom you are in Christ and also spiritually lazy.

We have seen your spiritual standing. Let’s see how to operate in the supernatural.

“Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.” Mark 5:1-7 (NKJV).

This man was a terror in his city. People feared him because he had unusual power. They caught him on some occasion, tied him up with chains, but he pulled it apart. That was unusual power. He was highly demonized.

It is possible that the members of that mad man’s family invited the Pharisees, Sadducees and teachers of law to deliver him, but they couldn’t. It is possible that they invited native doctors and sorcerers to help out, but they couldn’t. Why? A legion of demons occupied that man’s spirit.

But that same man, with about six thousand demons in him, saw Jesus Christ and bowed. In fact, the demons pleaded with Jesus. They begged Him not to torment them. The tormentors begged Jesus not to torment them.

What happened? Why didn’t he chase Jesus out of Gadara? Why didn’t Jesus run away when He saw that man? The answer is simple; when you are spiritually loaded, even the devil and his agents know.

That mad man feared nobody. He was ‘very powerful.’ I am sure there are people like that mad man in your family, kindred, village or town. I am sure there are people like that mad man in your place of work, street or even church. Shouting won’t frighten the demons in them. In fact, shouting Holy Ghost fire won’t frighten them. But being spiritually rugged will send the devil out of that individual.

So, how can one operate in the supernatural and take charge of his territory?

Since Jesus Christ is our perfect example, let’s see what He did.

(1). Develop a Rugged Prayer Life.

Jesus Christ had a rugged prayer schedule that I don’t think anyone can match. Remember that He is God, but He did not joke with prayer. Why? Because He came to set an example for us. Before He start His ministry, brother Luke reported:

“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness…” Luke 4:1 (NKJV).

He prayed for forty days and nights and overcame the temptations of the devil. Look at what happened after that:

“Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.” Luke 4:14-15 (NKJV).

He returned in the power of the Spirit and the news about Him went out through all the surrounding region. That is the product of prayer. If you want to be used by God, please develop a personal prayer life. If you want to have depth in the Word of God, please pray. If you want to operate in the supernatural, please have a daily prayer schedule.

He did not stop there. He prayed daily. Mark reported it thus:

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him. When they found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.” But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.” And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee and casting out demons.” Mark 1:35-39 (NKJV).

Bible scholars said that Jesus spent six hours in prayer every morning. Six straight hours of intensive prayer that generated spiritual stability and made Him a terror to the kingdom of darkness. Anywhere He showed up, witches and demons will begin to lament.

If you want demons to start screaming when they see you from today, please develop daily prayer schedule. Not one-hour prayer today and the next time you remember prayer may be in two months’ time. It requires consistency. Have a consistent prayer life. Daily, the same time, the same place. Do it for one year and you’ll see wonders.

Before Jesus died, He showed the disciples how to live a victorious life for the last time.

“Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me. ”He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. So, He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then He came to His disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.” Matthew 26:36-46 (NKJV).

Jesus showed them how to live a victories life at the Gethsemane. He said to them, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.”

That is, the minimum requirement is to pray for at least one hour at a stretch. But they were too weak to pray. That was why the disciples panicked whenever they encountered challenges. When they faced storm attack, they panicked (Mark 4:35-41). They couldn’t cast out the demon that oppressed a young man (Mark 9:17-18).

But when Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples took responsibility by force. They camped in the upper room for about 50 days (from Passover to the feast of Pentecost). It was while they were praying that heaven opened, and power descended into the upper room.

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:1-4 (NKJV).

After that experience, they continued praying. Luke reported,

“Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.” Acts 3:1 (NKJV).

That means they had daily prayer schedule that took place by 9AM, 12PM, 3PM etc. Whether they were tired, feel like praying or not, once it is 3PM everybody heads to the place of prayer. Why? Because that is how to remain spiritually rugged.

When they were flogged and told not to preach Christ anymore, they went to their prayer chamber. Luke reported that:

“And being let go, they went to their own companions and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. So, when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: Why did the nations rage, and the people plot vain things? The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were gathered together against the LORD and against His Christ.’ “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.

Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:23-31 (NKJV).

You cannot operate in the supernatural unless you develop rugged prayer life. I mean, rigid prayer life—regimented prayer life.

In fact, we started what we call prayer without prayer points some time ago. I told my young friends that we must pray in tongues for the minimum of one hour every morning. Your spiritual life will shift to the next level if you do that. You can click this link https://t.me/joinchat/WIR1nIVEDsxlZDlk and join our new Telegram group.
