It Is Not Over Until You Win

It is possible that you believe that Covid19 and the lockdown will definitely affect your goals and plans for 2020. Well, if you agree that it is over, you will prove yourself right very soon.

It is possible that someone that is reading this article right now is going through a rough season. It could be sickness, financial challenges, family problems, job loss etc. My advice is don’t give up!

Sport taught me that anyone can be victorious at any moment. Many football matches were won at the extra time because the loosing team refused to give up. In fact, some winning teams were already celebrating at the dying minutes of the game, only to loose the match. Don’t give up too soon.

Amazing Story of Terry Fox

“When most countries talk about their national heroes, they are often great political or military heroes who shaped the character of their nation.

Sometimes, they are great athletes responsible for scoring the winning goal in an international competition.

But when Canadians are polled to identify a national hero, their overwhelming first choice is a young man who died at the age twenty-nine. Further, he is remembered for running a marathon he never completed.

Terry Fox was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and moved to Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, with his family when he was ten years old.

His mother remembers him as “average in everything but determination. His passion in life was basketball, and as a student at Simon Fraser University, he tried out for the junior basketball team and made it by sheer desire.

During the year, Terry noticed a pain in his right knee but decided not to tell anyone until the season was over. In March, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Three days later, his right leg was amputated above the knee.

Rather than wallowing in sorrow, Terry shocked family and friends by maintaining a positive attitude.

When he read a story about Dick Traum, a one-legged man who had run the New York Marathon, Terry began talking about running his own “Marathon of Hope.”

Terry had been deeply moved by the suffering and courage of other cancer patients he met in the hospital. He set a goal to run across Canada from coast to coast raising money for cancer research. He dreamed big, hoping to raise one dollar from every Canadian in the nation.

After years of preparation, Terry began his run in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on April 12, 1980. Although it began without much media attention, he received much more coverage as he ran through Quebec and Ontario.

But as he left Thunder Bay, Ontario, and began running toward Manitoba, doctors who were monitoring his progress discovered the cancer had not only returned but had spread throughout his body. The run ended just west of Thunder Bay and Terry returned home and died within months.

News of the end of his marathon sparked a spontaneous outpouring of support for Terry’s cause. When a national television network encouraged people to contribute to the Cancer Society in Terry’s honor, the two million dollars he had raised swelled to twenty-five million dollars within days.

Though the “Marathon of Hope” ended early, the goal of raising one dollar from every Canadian in the nation was reached.

More than two decades later, many Canadian communities continue organizing local runs to raise money for cancer research in honor of a young man who defied odds and did what he could for a cause in which he believed.”

I am very sure that your case is not as worse as that of Terry Fox. So, why are you giving up so soon? Why are you lamenting? Yes, I know you are going through life challenges, but you must understand that you are better than millions of people across the world.

Pen Your Epitaph with Your Exploits

Beyond going through trying times, what would you want to be remembered for? A man or woman who came into the earth, occupied space for some years and died unknown?

God did not send you to this planet to occupy space, or to end up as a piece of statistical material that is only valuable during census. You are a solution to the challenges of humanity. Don’t appear and disappear without touching and transforming lives.

Although Terry died young. Although he sufferd from cancer. Although he lost one leg on the process, but he refused to end up as a nonentity. If he had settled for death earlier, he would have died unknown. But he chose to die for a cause he believed in. Today, he is a national hero, inspiring young people to make undeniable impact in their generation.

Dear friend, cheer up! Every problem that showed up will definitely disappear. You will overcome that challenge. You will look back one day and laugh at yourself, wondering why you panicked because of that challenge.

Joseph B. Wirthlin said, “As with the butterfly, adversity is necessary to build character in people.”

Molière opined; “The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.”

Ana Claudia Antunes puts it this way; “Life keeps throwing me stones. And I keep finding the diamonds.”

My advice is, when life throw stones at you, collect them and build a beautiful mansion. Whe life throws lemon at you, grab them and make lemonade.

Don’t succumb to fear or allow anxiety to intimidate you. Raise your faith antenna and connect with heaven. Whatever looks like a mountain around you will definitely disappear without trace from this very minute.
