Nobody Will Create Wealth for You, Not Even Government!

Hey, relax! Follow me carefully.

This treatise is not designed to exonerate government and leaders. Government and leaders can create condusive environment for citizens to thrive, but they cannot create wealth for you.

It is on record that some of our leaders across Africa are selfish and self-centered. Most of them are in politics for self-aggrandizement.

Africa is potentially the wealthiest continent on earth. We have all manner of valuable natural resources. We have what it takes to become a wealthy continent. Unfortunately, bad leadership eroded that.

In case you don’t know, more than 70 percent of the world’s cobalt is produced in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

According to usgs.gov, “Cobalt (Co) is a metal used in numerous diverse commercial, industrial, and military applications, many of which are strategic and critical. On a global basis, the leading use of cobalt is in rechargeable battery electrodes. Superalloys, which are used to make parts for gas turbine engines, are another major use for cobalt.

Cobalt is also used to make airbags in automobiles; catalysts for the petroleum and chemical industries; cemented carbides (also called hardmetals) and diamond tools; corrosion- and wear-resistant alloys; drying agents for paints, varnishes, and inks; dyes and pigments; ground coats for porcelain enamels; high-speed steels; magnetic recording media; magnets; and steel-belted radial tires.”

“Cobalt is used to build rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, an integral part of the mobile technology that has become commonplace in recent years. Already these batteries have defined the world’s tech devices. “Smartphones would not fit in pockets without them.”— treehugger.com

With all these natural resources, DRC is one of the poorest countries on earth. According to world bank, it is estimated that 73% of the Congolese population, equaling 60 million people, lives on less than $1.90 a day (the international poverty rate).

A cursory glance at the economy of different nations across Africa will make you weep for this blessed continent. This article is not designed to exonerate government. It is designed to help you realize that at the end of the day, you are still the person that will determine whether you’ll be rich or poor.

Some people believe that the reason they are poor is because of bad government. I agree to some extent. I understand why they say that, but we must understand that nobody, not even God will create wealth for you.

I suggest that various governments across Africa should do the following: give unemployment benefit to the downtrodden, food stamps, income support and housing benefit, standard minimum wages, regulation of labour markets etc. Government must ensure that citizens are protected, and no one should trample on their rights.

But don’t forget that even if our leaders do these, it is still your duty to create wealth for yourself.

Some people believe that government should be sharing money to all citizens monthly or annually. But haven’t you discovered that people who collect free money never become wealthy? You can only create wealth by creating value. Collecting free money will enslave you. It will encourage you to be lazy. It will kill your potential and annihilate your enviable future.

Hoping that once we live in a certain nation or have our own nation everybody will become wealthy is simply an illusion. People say that to pacify themselves. People say that to justify idleness. People say that to assure themselves that not having an initiative or job is other people’s fault.

There are poor people in every nation on earth, including first world nations like the United States of America, Germany, Canada, France, Japan and the rest. There are homeless people in these nations. There are beggars in these nations. There are fraudsters in these nations. There are armed robbers in these nations.

Stop hoping that once you migrate to a certain nation or have your own nation all your problems will varnish overnight. That’s an illusion.

If you are residing in the United States of America you must work, generate uncommon idea, establish a business, run and grow it. If you are residing in Dubai, with all the skyscrapers and beautiful environment, you must work or establish a business to create wealth. No nation will take away your poverty. No independent nation will make you wealthy overnight.

Take Full Responsibility for Your Life

You can become wealthy in any nation on earth including Syria and Lebanon. All it takes is to first of all, agree that it is your duty to break the back of poverty. You must come to terms with this reality. No matter how fantastic a nation or government is, nobody will create wealth for you.

Even God will not create wealth for you. God has provided all you need to create wealth. He gave you life and 24 hours for free. He drops fresh ideas into your mind periodically, connect you to important people, orchestrate events that will engender great opportunity etc. But what God will not do is to create wealth on your behalf.

After creating Adam, look at what God did:

“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” Genesis 2:15.

The Almighty God created man, and instead of bringing food to Adam and his wife daily, He planted a garden that has the potential to grow, and told Adam to cultivate it. That is, Adam, if your family must eat daily and become wealthy, you must transform this garden.

God does not give wealth, He gives you the seed that will usher in the wealth. That seed could be a relative sending $10,000 to you. What God just did through your relative is to give you seed capital to create the kind of wealth you desire. Unfortunately, some of us will squander the money and go back to God to demand for more.

The seed could be an opportunity, connection to an important person, an idea etc. Unfortunately, because many people are asking God to give them cash, they won’t see the seeds God sent to them. That is why some Christians are poor.

All through their journey from Egypt to the promised land, God provided water, food etc. for the Israelites. God took care of virtually all their needs because He knew they could not be productive at that point. But the moment they stepped into the promised land, this happened:

“Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight on the plains of Jericho. And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day. Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.” Joshua 5:10-12 (NKJV).

That is how God works. Once He gives you an opportunity and the ability to do something, He expects you to be responsible from that moment. It is now your duty to use what He provided to create what you want. He expects you not to wait for Him from that moment.

Many people are poor because they are waiting for either God or government to make them rich. It doesn’t work that way. If anybody tells you that once you migrate to a certain nation or have your independent, you’ll be picking money on the street, he is lying to you. Government will do their part, but you must do you own part.

  1. FACT. This is just “reality”, but the extent to which anyone that comes across this post will appreciate it, make use of it, and the outcome will depend on lots of factors. Using myself as a case study; I’m a very hard-working girl that loves learning with formal education but my background made me not to recognize lots of opportunities in school then and make good use of it. This affected my fitting in into the labour market and my choice of husband which worsened the whole situation. My quest to be better even as a single mum made me expose myself to different learning environments, but the more I learn and practice the things that I have learned, the more confused and drained I will be at the end without any tangible result. It got a stage that I termed myself a failure and start believing that I can never be good in anything again in this life. At this point, I had no money to feed myself and kids not to talk of their education, but luckily for me, someone gave me money to use and sustain myself and the kids, but invested it in a group just to be in the midst of positive vibes. This made the people around me start seeing me as a very crazy being, but I thank God I took that bold step for it helped me mix up with amazing individuals that hold me by hand and showed me how to go about it amidst their daily encouragement and motivation. That’s when I realized the importance of having a “mentor and a coach”. Now, I have realized that until one is fully aware of whom he is, living true to his purpose in this life, and playing full to his strength, he will be able to create wealth for himself. And this will include mastering the skills of this new economy. Me right now even without any available resources, I know will be making better choices now that will lead to my wealth creation and brighter future for my kids. Shalom 🙌
